Edinburgh Theatre:

Edinburgh Festival TheatreDuring the Festival Edinburgh is alive with a vibrant theatre and cinema scene. Outside the Festival Edinburgh has a thriving community of both large and small theatres with shows ranging from the big successes from London's West End to opera and ballet. Prices are reasonable and can range from £5 upwards (depending on the venue and production).

If you are planning a visit to Edinburgh and wish to enjoy a theatre production your best bet is to purchase a listings magazine such as The List, a fortnightly publication with complete listings for the areas of both Edinburgh and Glasgow(only an hour or two's drive away). Otherwise you will find listings appearing in local newspaers Edinburgh Evening News and The Scotsman (where you will also find details of any special offers or student discounts that are available).

It is common to find theatres housed in converted buildings, especially old churches. Designs vary from the Festival Theatre's mix of art nouveau, beaux arts and neo-classicism to the award winning contemporary design found in The Hub.

We have listed below a number of the more popular theatres in Edinburgh with address and contact details and a small amount of info.
