Edinburgh Art Galleries:

Edinburgh has four major houses of art; the National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art (pictured left) and the Dean Gallery. There are also large number of other, smaller but impressive, art galleries and studios that are well worth a visit while in Edinburgh. You can see both traditional Scottish painting and more contemporary works. The Scottish National Gallery for Modern Art housing in excess of 5,000 works from the 19th century to the present day with many works of the worlds artists.

The National Gallery of Scotland can be found nested inbetween Edinburgh's Old and New Towns and is home to Scotland's finest collections of European art dating from the Renaissance to post-impressionism. Along side the masterpieces can be found collections of sculpures.
